Assignment 6
Assignments for this week! This time, I did some gear-related problems, and selected a final concept for my project.
Gear Problems
Assume you have a motor spinning at 1000 rad/s with 0.1 Nm of torque and you attach a 58:1 gear train to it. (a) How much torque will there be at the output shaft and (b) what speed will it be turning? Repeat A with a 203:1 gear ratio.
Solution
a) 1000 rad/s * 58:1 = 58000 rad/s; 0.1 Nm / 58:1 = 0.00172 Nm
b) 1000 rad/s * 203:1 = 203000 rad/s; 0.1 Nm / 203:1 = 0.000493 Nm
Invention
My final concept for the quarter will be the Random Wheel. It's a device that comes equipped with a dry-erase wheel that spins around to help you make decisions.
